about
I met Phoenix Keating (a.k.a FREDE) whilst running a creative studio space and gallery called ‘Soldiers Rd’ in Hibernian House of Sydney in 2012. At the time he was focussed on his role as a fashion designer and was achieving great things in this domain. He always showed enthusiasm and interest in the music I was making at the studio and when he shared a video of himself years later I was blown away by the sound of his voice! I couldn’t believe he had been hiding that talent away.
The track is a sort of dystopian electro-pop song inspired by artists like James Blake and Chet Faker. The drum programming is sparse and clean with its warbled synth tones recorded through various guitar pedals creating valleys of space around FREDE’s more dry and forward vocal tone. Laden with emotional conviction, it’s sure to be a standout moment on the album.
